Astraea: Type Design, Winter 2015
Astraea is a collaboration between students that sketched, designed, vectorized, and later developed a custom wood block set of the typeface all within a week. The display face was created in a week with a group effort of fellow colleagues at UMass Dartmouth with the help of designers Mark Jamra and Steve Bowden.
The typeface was finalized on a CNC machine cut into a set of wood blocks that will be kept at the school. We also designed the typeface to have a special set of snap on serifs that were created similar to that of Matthew Carter's Walker typeface.
